Frozen vs chilled meat for carnivore (does it matter?)

The honest science on frozen vs chilled meat. Why frozen often wins for delivery and weekly prep.

The short answer

Frozen is cheaper, easier to ship, and nutritionally identical once thawed. Most nutritionists cannot tell the difference in a blind test.

Chilled (0-4C) tastes marginally better on day-of, but the premium is real - usually 15-25% more.

Our recommendation: default to Frozen Economy, upgrade to Chilled Premium for special-occasion cuts (steaks for a braai).

Modern flash-freezing locks in protein, fat and micronutrient content at the moment of freezing. Independent lab studies show nutrient loss under 5%.

Why we mostly ship frozen

Three reasons: shelf life (frozen keeps 6+ months vs chilled 5-7 days), delivery risk tolerance, and price.

Our Premium Box ships chilled where possible because the customer is paying for a special-occasion experience.

When to choose chilled

Cooking same-day: chilled has a slight edge on sear quality.

Cooking 2-3 days: frozen is fine - thaw in the fridge.

Cooking 2+ weeks: frozen is correct.
